New Information About Hormone That Affects Sleep
From National Sleep Foundation
--
Our general sleep patterns – being sleepy at night and awake during the
day – are guided to a great extent by our exposure to light and
darkness. A key factor in these patterns may be a natural hormone called melatonin.
1.
Educate yourself about adolescent development, including physical and
behavioral changes you can expect (especially those that relate to
sleep needs and patterns).
2.
Look for signs of sleep deprivation (insufficient sleep) and sleepiness
in your children. Keep in mind that the signs are not always obvious,
especially in younger (pre-adolescent) children.
